ABOUT OUR PRODUCTS

Judy Ross Textiles’ products are handcrafted using the finest materials and exceptional craftsmanship. Luxurious fibers such as New Zealand wool, Chinese silk, Belgian linen, and hand-loomed wool from Kashmir bring together old-world textile traditions with a modern sensibility.

For more than thirty-five years, we have built trusted relationships with master craftsmen and artisans whose expertise and dedication are at the heart of everything we create. Together, we celebrate artistry, craftsmanship, and the enduring beauty of handmade design.

Chain stitch:

Chain stitch is a 2,500-year-old artisanal embroidery technique where the needle must pass through the fabric only once in each stitch. The looped stitches create a distinctive chain-like pattern. An embroiderer can be both swift and precise, controlling the tightness of the stitch and the direction of the embroidered line even in complex designs. Working with master embroiderers in Kashmir, Judy enhanced the traditional appearance of chain stitch by using straight, up-and-down stitches to create a smooth, dense, completely embroidered field of flawless stitches. We take pride in helping to preserve this centuries-old tradition.

Chain Stitch Pillow Collection:

The pillow collection pairs centuries-old chain stitch techniques with contemporary design. Each pillow is meticulously embroidered by hand using the finest 3-ply New Zealand wool. The wool is hand dyed, which adds depth and nuance to the color. Master artisans embroider fields of small, dense stitches that give the designs movement, luster, texture, and durability. Some styles incorporate rayon yarns used to heighten the motifs and impart lustrous highlights throughout. Textural contrasts between wool and silk as well as the straight rows of stitches add depth to the embroidery.

HAND-EMBROIDERED RAYON COLLECTION

Hand-embroidered fine rayon yarn is used to create a more refined and luxurious feel. The embroidery is immaculately done in tightly controlled stitches using 3-ply rayon thread. These pillows are backed in linen with a concealed zipper. All of our designs may be custom made using this technique.

Hand-knotted Wool Rug and Runner Collection:

Our hand-knotted rugs are made at 100 knots per square inch by expert weavers in Nepal using the finest quality hand-dyed Tibetan wool with Chinese silk accents. The wool is hand carded, hand spun, and pot dyed. Rugs can be customized to your specifications in size, pile height, color, and design.

Hand-embroidered Chain Stitch Rug and Runner Collection:

Our chain stitch rugs are hand-embroidered in northern India by master artisans using durable, hand-dyed New Zealand wool backed with heavy weight canvas. Some styles incorporate accents of rayon yarn used to impart lustrous highlights throughout.

FLATWEAVES

Our hand woven flat weaves are a beautiful dialogue between our artisans craftsmanship and Judy’s contemporary drawings. With hand dyed yarns that enhance the saturated color ways, they are full of richness and texture. Done in Nepal, each piece is meticulously woven on a floor loom and binded by hand.

HAND-EMBROIDERED WOOL SCARVES AND THROWS

Judy started her creative textile journey with her limited edition scarves and throws. They are hand embroidered with rayon yarn on soft, lightweight wool and have a one-inch fringe on each end. The wool is hand carded and spun, pot dyed, and hand loomed. This labor-intensive process ensures lasting quality. These beautiful hand-embroidered pieces take an old world-textile tradition and give it a modern sensibility.

HAND-EMBROIDERED LINEN DUVET/BEDCOVER/PILLOWS:

Rendered with fine rayon threads on a linen ground, Judy’s hand-embroidered designs afford a luxurious finish. Custom colors, styles, and fabrics (including your own) are available. Embroidered yardage can be made into bedcovers, curtain panels, or sewn to specifications. Fabric is available in running yardage, 56 inches in width.
